Day 1

Spend day 1 of your 4 days in San Pedro, exploring this famous town in Belize. It is said that Madonna refers to this island in her song La Isla Bonita!

Explore San Pedro

Walk around the town of San Pedro. There are a lot of cool cafes on the beach if you want to grab breakfast. At 10:30 AM make your way to the Belize Chocolate Company and participate in a chocolate making class. The class lasts about 40 minutes and is considered one of the best things to do in San Pedro. You should make a reservation in advance.

Next, visit the Belizean Arts gallery to see paintings from local artists. They also have various souvenirs if you want to do a little shopping.

Secret Beach

Then make your way to Secret Beach for a late lunch and spend the rest of your day there. Secret Beach is on the other side of the main town of San Pedro. To get there, you need to either take a taxi or rent a golf cart. Golf carts are the best way to get around San Pedro. One note is that you should book them in advance, especially if you are coming during high season. Ask your hotel for a recommendation or check on Google maps. There are golf cart rental shops everywhere but golf carts do sell out.

The road to Secret beach is a little bumpy but go slow and you will be fine!

There is also a boat shuttle service that was just opened. You can check out more details HERE. This is a convenient way to travel.

Once at Secret Beach you can bar hop from place to place. Blue Bayou and the restaurant next door, Bamboo Fence Restaurant & Swing Bar are pretty popular. These places have tables and benches in the water, so come prepared in your bathing suits.

The sun does set on this side of the island, so it’s a perfect place to see the sunset but one thing to note is that you may have to drive back in the dusk/dark. Good news is that there will be so many people doing the same! It takes about 45 minutes to get from San Pedro to Secret Beach.

Day 2

Day 2 of your 4 days in San Pedro will be spent on a nearby and popular destination in Belize!

Catch a Belizian Sunrise

San Pedro town is located on the eastern side of Ambergris Caye and is therefore a great place to catch a stunning sunrise.

Caye Caulker

After watching the sunrise, hop over on a ferry to Caye Caulker. This caye is also a part of the Belize Barrier Reef and is a short ferry ride from San Pedro. You can buy ferry tickets online or in-person but do get there early either way. See HERE for the ferry schedule.

Once at Caye Caulker, you can grab a late breakfast at one of the beach side restaurants and start exploring the island. It’s relatively small! On the opposite side of the island from where the ferry dropped you off is a place called Stingray Beach where you can see plenty of stingray. You can even pet them but please don’t feed them! Next door to this is a pier that has sea horses. Ask someone to show you exactly where if you can’t find the place but it’s not far from the stingrays.

At the end of the island is a restaurant and bar called the Lazy Lizard which is super popular any time of the day!

Bliss Beach

Caye Caulker is actually made up of two small islands. To get to the second island, you can take a ferry called the Split to Split. You will find it at the end of the Lazy Lizard. The best thing to do at this second island is to go to a place called Bliss Beach. To get there from the split ferry, you can either bike, ride a golf cart, walk or take a private boat. Once at Bliss Beach enjoy cocktails at the bar and relax on the beach!

4 days in San Pedro, Belize

Get back to the first island to catch a ferry back to San Pedro! If you time it right, go back to the side where you say stingrays this morning to watch the sunset before catching the ferry back. Please do check the ferry and sunset times!

Day 3

On day 3 of your 4 days in San Pedro, do one of the things that Belize is most famous for! Snorkel or dive in the Belize Barrier Reef. As I mentioned Hol Chan Marine Reserve is just a short boat ride way! You can get to Hol Chan from either San Pedro or Caye Caulker. Most tours follow a similar itinerary. See my detailed post for more!

Day 4

If you love to snorkel and want to explore more, then you can do a half day tour from San Pedro. If not take this day to relax in San pedro. Walk around a bit more, relax on a beach or your hotel pool. Another option is to go to Palapa Bar and swim in the little natural pool next to the restaurant.

In the evening, catch a sunset cruise on a beautiful sail boat. I really enjoyed this tour and can recommend it. You sail back under a starry sky and it was incredible! Enjoy rum punch and snacks on the boat.

Getting to San Pedro

You can get to San Pedro either by air or ferry from Belize City. The flight is 15 minutes from Belize City Airport and the ferry takes 1.5 hours. Flights do tend to delay if there is bad weather so that is one thing to keep in mind.

Where to Stay

I stayed at Mayan Princess. It’s on the beach and just walking distance from the airport. It’s also close to the ferry port and a ton of restaurants. It’s not a fancy place but the location cannot be beat and the staff are so nice! Check it out HERE.

Another option is Blue Tang Inn. It’s very close to Mayan Princess and is also on the beach. Blue Tang Inn has a pool too. See HERE.

Both are good choices for reasonable accommodation options at hard to beat locations!

Where to Eat

Elvi’s Kitchen

I ate at Elvi’s twice during my stay in San Pedro. This is one of the most poplar restaurants in town so it is best if you can make reservations ahead of time! Especially for dinner. The food is a mixture of Belizian and Caribbean and is so good!

Palapa Bar

A sports bar at the end of a long pier and on the water. As I mentioned, they have a little cordoned off pool at the end of the restaurant and lounge chairs on the pier. Food is good and so are the drinks and service!

Hidden Treasure Restaurant & Lounge

You may need a taxi to go this restaurant but trust me it is worth it! They also have a free shuttle that you can book if it’s available on the day you are visiting. This place was packed so make a reservation in advance, The food is Belizian and absolutely delicious. Service and staff were incredible too!
