2 Days in Dubrovnik Itinerary

by shortgirlontour

Dubrovnik is a popular destination in Croatia that has been made even more popular in recent times by the hit television series, Game of Thrones. Dubrovnik is compact and easy to visit. This post is an itinerary for 2 days in Dubrovnik.

Pro Tip for this 2 Days in Dubrovnik Itinerary

2 days is just about enough time to see the highlights of Dubrovnik. The best way to make sure you are able to see everything Dubrovnik has to offer is to start your day early (this also beats the heat and crowds in the summer time)

Day 1

Walk through Stradun

Stradun is the main drag of the Old Town. It’s lined with shops and restaurants and busy throughout the day and night. It’s only 300 meters long so it’s a quick walk. Visit early morning or late night for a crowd free experience.

Walk the Walls

If you have 2 days in Dubrovnik and pick only one thing to do, then walking the Walls would be the number one thing to do. The Walls of Dubrovnik extend to almost 2 kilometers and dates back to the middle ages. They have actually survived several natural disasters and is one of Croatia’s World Heritage Sites.

There are 3 entrances to the Walls:

  • Near Ploce Gate
  • Just inside Pile Gate next to the St. Salvation Church
  • Near St. John’s Fort near the old port

You can only walk the Walls counterclockwise and can only visit once with you ticket (meaning you cannot enter and exit). Try to do this first thing in the morning as it can get very hot later on. You will need at least 2 hours for this. Also, don’t forget to hold on to the ticket for the next place on this post.

Visit Fort Lovrijenac

Fort Lovrijenac is Dubrovnik’s oldest fort! It’s also a Game of Thrones filming location. The entry ticket to the Walls is also the entry ticket to the Fort, so hold on to it.

This would be a good time to stop and grab lunch.

Take a Game of Thrones Tour

If you are a Game of Thrones fan, join a tour to learn about all the filming locations. There are many in Dubrovnik. If you are planning on doing this tour, skip Fort Lovrijenac above. The tour should take you there. You will need your ticket from the Walls so hold on to it. If you lose it, you will have to buy that ticket again.

Relax at Banje Beach

If you are looking to relax or catch some rays, head over to Banje beach that is located right outside the gates. Even if you are not the sit on the beach and relax type of person (trust me, I get it! I’m the same way!), Banje beach has great views of the Old Town and Old Port.

Visit Buza Bar

Wrap up your day 1 of this 2 days in Dubrovnik itinerary with a visit to Buza Bar. This cliff side bar is very popular for a drink and to relax. There are 2 of these both close to each other, Buza I and Buza II. Buza II has better views but is harder to get in. You may have to wait a bit or go well before sunset.

Day 2

Wander Through the Old Town

The Old Town of Dubrovnik is pretty compact and easy to walk around. Stradun is the main drag and splits the town into 2 vertically. You can walk around and take in the sites and/or visit the following places as you walk. You will probably need around 3 hours for this.

  • Old Harbor
  • Franciscan Monastery Museum
  • Walk Through the Various Gates
  • Church of St. Blaise
  • Rector’s Palace
  • Dubrovnik Cathedral
  • Sponza Palace

Visit the Game of Thrones Filming Locations

If you joined a Game of Thrones tour on day 1, chances are that you may have seen all of the Game of Throne Filming locations. If you did not take a tour on day 1, then check out this list during your visit to Fort Lovrijenac, when you are walking the Walls or wandering through Old Town today.

  • Ploče Gate – Where Cersei entered the Red Keep after her Walk of Shame
  • St. Dominic Street – Protest speech against the Lannister’s was delivered here
  • Minčeta Tower (can be seen during Wall walk) – The House of Undying
  • Blackwater Bay (can be seen on the way to the Fort)
  • Jesuit Steps – Shame walk
  • Joffrey’s Naming Day – Court yard at Fort Lovrijenac
  • Kings Landing – Can be seen from Fort Lovrijenac overlooking the Walls

Lokrum Island

Beat the crowds in Dubrovnik by going to Lokrum island for a couple of hours. This island is a 15 minute ferry ride from the city and you can find a boar ride to the island from the Old Port. Once you get there you can swim or roam round the gardens.

See Dubrovnik from Top

One of Dubrovnik’s most iconic views is from Mount Srd. The most popular time to visit Mount Srd is during sunset. I went during the day because I wanted to see the view in good daylight and also because I didn’t want to deal with the crowds. You can either drive to Mount Srd or go up in a cable car. Be aware that the cable car may not run if there is heavy wind and/or rain.

D’Vino Wine Bar

Wrap up day 2 of this 2 days in Dubrovnik itinerary at D’Vino wine bar. This is one of my favorite places in Dubrovnik! They have over 60 wines by the glass including Croatian grown wine. Try one of their wine flights. This place is very popular so book ahead.

With More Time

If you have more time in Dubrovnik, you can easily side step to either Montenegro or Bosnia & Herzegovina. The city of Kotor in Montenegro is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Dubrovnik while Mostar in Bosnia is around 2 hours 15 minutes.

See HERE for more details about Kotor and HERE for more details about Mostar!

If you don’t have a vehicle, you can also visit these countries with a tour group.
