The colorful, costal city of Cartagena in Colombia is a paradise for photographers and instagrammers! From the Historic Walled City with its brightly colored houses and colonial balconies to the neighboring Getsemani with its jaw dropping street art, there is no shortage of beautiful places to photograph. Keep reading to discover some of the best photo spots in Cartagena!
Best Photo Spots in the Walled City
Carrera 9
This road is an absolute dream for instagrammers and probably one of the best photo spots in Cartagena! The mix of bright and pastel colored houses that line this street is the perfect place to capture photos for your next instragram post! The particular section I am talking about is between Hotel Boutique Callecitas de Cartagena and the restaurant Gokela San Diego. My favorite on this street is a bright blue house with fuchsia doors and windows.

Calle 38
This road runs perpendicular to Carrera 9 and has a bright coral pink house with a blue door that is really pretty. The contrast of the coral pink with the turquoise blue door makes for a great photograph.

Calle de la Tablada
This road also runs perpendicular to Carrera 9 and pararel to Calle 38. Definitely worth walking down and to take pictures of the pretty houses with colorful facades and doors.

Carrera 8
Another colorful street packed with vividly colored houses and balconies with bougainvillea and other types of flora cascading from above.

Calle 36
The tower of the University of Cartagena peeping through the beautiful colonial balconies of this road makes a great background for a photograph.

Calle de la Iglesia and Calle de Don Sanchos
Calle de la Iglesia is the road the Cathedral is on while Calle de Don Sanchos is the road after the first intersection on that same road the Cathedral is as you walk towards the sea. Together these two roads make up one of the most photographed streets in all of Cartegena.

Movich Hotel
The view from the roof top of Movich Hotel with the background of the Walled City, harbor and trendy Bocagrande area is also another highly photographed place in all of Cartagena.

Calle de la Inquisición
In my opinion, the first house on Calle de la Inquisicion is one of the most beautiful houses in Cartagena. Its white walls and contrasting and cascading green foliage definitely makes my best photo spots in Cartagena list.

Best Photo Spots in Getsemani
The neighborhood of Getsemani is a short walk from the Walled City and is famous for its colorful streets. Everywhere you look in Getsemani, you will see streets filled with vividly colored flags, umbrellas and the most amazing street art.
Plaza de la Trinidad

Callejon Angost (Calle 27)
There is something about streets with umbrellas that makes for the best Instagram pictures! Calle 27 is one of the two main umbrella streets.

Calle de la Magdalena
The other main umbrella street. Instead of it being multi-colored, this one was themed pink, blue and purple!

Colorful Murals
There are so many murals and street art in Getsemani that you won’t miss it! You will see them almost in every street and corner.

Other Colorful Roads
Carrera 10c
This is a long road and it is decorated with umbrellas, colorful flags and cut out butterflies along the way.

Calle 29
Kites is the theme of this road!

Calle de San Juan

Carrera 10

Calle de la Sierpe
If you love to travel, then you would love this street with its flags of other countries around the world.

Callejon Ancho

Carrera 10b

Pro Tip – The Caribbean sun is extremely unforgiving and casts harsh shadows and highlights on buildings. The best time to capture pictures is early morning or around 4 PM when the sun is much more subdued.

What a gorgeous place!
Indeed 🙂
How was your trip in July? Did you feel safe? Would it be safe for a mom and teen boy? Did the weather cooperate?
I went in December (summer in South America). Safety was not a concern in the walled city but maybe don’t venture out too deep in to Getsemani late at night. Weather was very hot!
What a smorgasbord of colour.
Indeed! Cartagena is one of the most colorful cities I have visited in my travels! Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to leave a comment 🙂
